Spring is here! Today is Maine Maple Sunday which means there are about ninety sugar houses throughout Maine that are open to the public. We went to Merrifield Farm in Gorham which is like a maple syrup paradise where we sampled maple syrup over vanilla ice cream and watched maple syrup being processed.
There was a very long line for the pancake breakfast.
We passed up the pancakes…
…and headed to the Sample Shack!
Yum!
This is maple syrup processing, modernized.
The old-fashioned way.
Shopping!
All local.
Cheese!
Blacksmith demonstration.
On the way home we stopped at another open house. Wayne made a friend!
We had brunch at a new-to-us diner in Westbrook. Wayne had the mac-n-cheese with buffalo chicken omelette which he really enjoyed. I had a veggie omelette but passed on the corned beef hash since it was from a can. And speaking of cans…
The Grade A Dark (Wayne’s favorite and they were almost sold out of it) Merrifield maple syrup we bought today shown with my unopened cans of Canadian maple syrup from the 1960s (more of my quirky estate sale finds).
I’m so glad spring is finally here!
Beautiful pictures – looked like a wonderful day! I can almost taste the maple
