Diversity of friendship was nothing unusual for me, a kid growing up in New York City, but it wasn’t until I moved into my little house in Maine that I discovered the expanse of wild love in my backyard.
This is a photo I took of my late dear friend, Buster in the fall of 2018. It was the day after I got married and I had finally found a vintage St. Francis statue at the flea market on the way home from church the Sunday after my wedding. I had been looking for one for years! Like Wishy, Buster raised my spirits in so many ways.
Some related good news: I saw a chipmunk on my deck a few days ago which is always the official sign of spring’s approach!
Love the image, and the thought! I’ll be looking for the chippies!

I like your vintage statue 🙂
This summer I had the opportunity to visit Assisi, where St Francis was born and is laid to rest

We had a squirrel in our backyard who we called Mamma because she was pregnant when we first started to feed her. She used to eat almonds from our fingertips. When I was sitting on our lounge chair on the patio she jumped up beside me looking for a treat. She also entered our apartment three times in search of nuts.

Awww! I hope that when she entered your apartment she did so politely. 🙂 Wishy came into my sunroom a couple of times when I had opened the front door and let him. He was always a respectful guest.

Averyl, we also had a bluejay who flew down onto our palm to eat chocolate cookies. I miss our two friends at our new place.

I’ve never had a bird fly onto my hand; I’ve always been focused mostly on the chipmunks. Blue Jays get a bad rap for being cranky, but who isn’t on occasion. They are beautiful birds and that must have been magical!

Ron, I was curious as to whether or not birds can eat chocolate and just learned it’s toxic to them. Here’s some good info: https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/feeding-your-backyard-birds

The bluejay first came after watching me feed the squirrel. One day they both came at the same time vying for my attention.
