Doesn’t the man on this vintage marketing piece for a Thermo Pride furnace look like Tom Netheron from The Lawrence Welk Show? Speaking of which, PBS isn’t showing it for the next three Saturday nights in a row! What will we do?! Anyway this is an actual part of the paperwork that came with my Thermo Pride furnace installed 31 years ago. When the housing inspector walked around my home before I purchased it he made a point to tell me that it could possibly last forever. When I looked up and met the original owners of my 1950 home and had them over the husband, Len beamed with so much pride when he stood in front of it. I can still see his big smile as he said: “It’s the Cadillac of furnaces!” I told him how I truly appreciated it since I was enjoying its comforting, reliable service. May hasn’t been very gracious. Saturday temps were in the 30s with blustery winds, snow and rain. Sunday was sunny but still cold.
When the going gets tough, the tough get groovy. I decided that I wouldn’t let the boorish behavior of some clouds and weather patterns get us down. I threw two parties for two, the first of which was late Saturday afternoon right before the Lawrence Welk Show on PBS.
How are you all doing? I’ve been getting outside to rake and do general spring cleaning in the yard. The fresh air, warming sunshine, exercise and Cider’s company is very healing. I’ve been keeping an eye out for Buster, too. Yesterday Wayne and I did some more exploring in our woods. He found a hidden gem I never knew was there!
I wasn’t planning to post anything until after the New Year but feel moved to share this. Last night Wayne and I watched the 1972 Lawrence Welk Christmas special, and we actually watch Lawrence Welk on Saturday “nights” (5:00 p.m.) when it’s on Maine PBS. I’ve had a rough week but watching this last night was so helpful in rekindling the Christmas spirit. Unapologetically*, here are the top six reasons why I think this show is balm for the soul:
