Yelp comped me a ticket to attend Maine’s Lobster Chef of the Year, a sold out event, which is a part of Portland’s Harvest on the Harbor. Lucky me! Wayne was also invited but had to work since it was mid-day Friday, so I met up with a fellow Yelp Elite. As judges we were served eight different tastings (one of the nine participating chefs had to cancel) and we then voted for our favorite. Check out these beautiful creations!
I have a genetic predisposition to being at higher risk for skin cancer, so I see a dermatologist for an annual skin exam. I had a mole on my arm that looked different from all of the others and my dermatologist had said we should keep an eye on it. About two weeks ago I noticed that it was changing: it was darker and starting to have uneven borders. What really frightened me was when I happened to notice in a photo of me from 2013 that it wasn’t even on my arm! It’s not normal to grow new moles when you’re over forty. I called her office to be seen and she agreed that it should be biopsied.
It’s a beautiful day! I took a walk downtown and here are some of the sights.
Imagine finding a store that manufactures ALL of its own clothing right here in the USA. It would seem like a dream. It did to me only a few days ago. Now, imagine if that same store made their clothing in your home state. But we’re not done. What would you say if I told you that the clothing is made RIGHT IN THE STORE?! That’s exactly what opened shop in the Old Port this past November!
I started working at Carburs kitchen in Burlington Vermont in August of 1977. Little did I know then, that for the next 12 years I would become completely enmeshed in the company and in the restaurant business.
After working in Burlington for almost two years, the opportunity to become part of the management team in Portland came up. I jumped at the chance with the caveat expressed to ownership that as soon as a position became available in Burlington, I would be allowed to move back. As irony would have it two years later I was asked to return to Burlington, but Portland, by that time had become the place I wanted to make my permanent home.

I’m about to head to bed after a “big night” out on the town, ha! Long gone are the days when my nights in the Old Port were just getting started at around 10:00 p.m.!
